Police say shoplifter had tub full of meat

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — A Floyd County man is facing felony charges, after police say he attempted to leave a store without paying for hundreds of dollars worth of meat and other items.

Paintsville Police were called to Walmart yesterday, after store security stopped a man for allegedly leaving the store without paying for all of the items in his shopping cart.

When police arrived, they opened a plastic tub in the shopping cart and found it full of different varieties of meats. The value of the meat and several other items in the cart was over $766.

Harlan Hall

Arrested was Harlan Hall, 47, of Tram. He was charged with felony shoplifting, due to the value of the items. He also was charged with third-degree burglary because he had previously been banned from all Walmart stores after a shoplifting incident at Prestonsburg Walmart last year.

Hall also currently faces misdemeanor shoplifting charges in Pikeville, after allegedly attempting to leave Lowe’s with two faucets stuffed in his pants earlier this month.

He is also currently under a two-year suspended sentence in Pike County, after attempting to steal over $1,300 worth of items from Ulta.

The latest charges out of Paintsville are both felonies, with a potential prison sentence of 1-to-5 years.
