BELFRY, Ky. — A Pike County man faces felony charges, following a high-speed chase.
Just after midnight Saturday morning, a state trooper attempted to pull over James Blackburn, 43, of Hardy, on U.S. 119, for driving 70 miles an hour in a 55 mph zone. Instead, the officer wrote in his report that Blackburn sped up to 100 miles an hour, making several U-turns in the highway and attempting to drive head-on into an ambulance. The ambulance reportedly had to drive into oncoming traffic to avoid a collision.
The pursuit continued onto Forest Hills Road, where police say Blackburn drove at speeds of up to 80 miles an hour in a 35 mph zone, before crashing into a creek.
The chase did not end there, and police say Blackburn took off on foot, running through several homes, before ultimately being captured.
He is now charged with fleeing police, wanton endangerment and speeding.
