Police searching for parking meter bandit caught on surveillance

meter_2 Williamson, Wv.–According to police, the man shown in the surveillance video is wanted in connection of destruction and theft of parking meters.

It happened around 3:45, Sunday evening, in the municipal parking lot on Second Avenue in Williamson.

The alleged suspect is a white, heavyset male. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and overalls. Officers say getting into a parking meter is not an easy task.

“You have to have a special key to get into it to access the meter part where the time-clock is and the base part has to have a special key to get into it where the actual money is.

The suspect, according to the video, took and twisted and broke the head off the bottom part of the base to access the money.

He took the money tray and the access door to the bottom part, but left the meter heads and the time-clocks sitting on the guard rail where the meters were located.

If they can’t be fixed, it will cost anywhere between four to five-hundred dollars to replace them.”

Hall went on to say that the meters had recently been emptied and the suspect is estimated to have only gotten thirty-five to forty dollars.
