UPIKE hosts fourth annual Film Festival

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The University of Pikeville Film and Media Arts program is hosting its fourth annual Film Festival.

The festival began Thursday and will last until Saturday. The festival kicked-off Thursday with a showcase of films submitted by UPIKE students.

Each year students in the university’s film festival class judge the films. Students organize and promote the festival.

UPIKE will be showing a variety of short and feature-length films of multiple genres created and submitted by a variety of professionals and college, high and middle school students.

EKB’s very own production manager, Ronnie Hylton, is among those featured throughout the festival. His production of “Wandering Around the Hills with Ronnie Hylton” was showcased on opening night.

“It focuses on a lot of the rugged country in eastern Kentucky and southwest Virginia and a little bit of history behind it and how my family is tied to it,” said Hylton. “I mean, I knew what I wanted to shoot and I knew where I wanted to go. But, as far as like, writing stuff out and planning it and going by a story board and all that stuff, I just didn’t do it.

“You know, I just went out and shot. We covered, I think it was over like 22 miles on foot with cameras over four or five days.”

Admission to the event is free and open to the public. For more information and a complete schedule visit fmafest.org.

Hylton’s production can be found on YouTube.
