Prestonsburg to open a new hiking/biking trail on former railroad bed

Officials in Prestonsburg say it won’t be long before the city opens a 10.2 mile trail similar to the Dawkins Trail or the Creeper Trail in southwest Virginia.  Mayor Les Stapleton says work is nearly complete on the former railroad bed which will accommodate hikers, runners, horses and bicycles.  The trail, which will also feature six scenic bridges, will go from Prestonsburg, behind the Middle Creek Battlefield and into the community of David, with information stops along the way.  Mayor Stapleton says the next few months will be spent making final preparations to the trail and paving it.  It is expected to be completed and opened to the public by spring of 2020.
