A Pike County man was indicted this week for allegedly attempting to entice a juvenile into sexual activity.
According to court documents, 50-year-old Darren Belcher, of Ashcamp, is facing a class D felony charge for allegedly using a computer or communication system for the purpose of procuring or promoting the use of a minor for unlawful sexual activity. Pike Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Bartley said Belcher knew the victim in the case, and that he offered the child money to take part in sexual activity.
Belcher is currently lodged in the Pike County Detention Center on charges related to the case. He could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
Bartley added that Belcher has previously been convicted for a sex-related crime and served a 10-year sentence in that case. Bartley said Belcher does not appear on Kentucky’s sex offender registry since his previous case and conviction took place prior to the establishment of laws in Kentucky requiring sex offenders to be registered.
