PIKEVILLE, Ky. –  An incident Wednesday morning before school prompted officials with the Pikeville Independent School System to send a safety notice out to parents and the community. According to the message, as a student was waiting on the morning bus, a vehicle driven by an older male stopped and asked if the student needed a ride to school. Fortunately, the student declined and chose to get on the bus, which was right behind the vehicle. School officials took action and notified all bus drivers as well as the Pikeville Police Department, who will be doing extra patrols in the area. Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about safety and notify the school if he or she notices anything out of the ordinary.
