A small business owner in Letcher County is looking for answers following a hit-and-run crash at his business over the weekend.
The crash happened just before 4 a.m. Saturday at Waylon’s Body Shop in East Jenkins. Video surveillance footage captured the impact, as an unidentified vehicle drives into the parking lot, and into the body of a classic fastback Ford Mustang that was slated for a restoration project. The impact shoves the Mustang and two other vehicle together, damaging all three, and the offending vehicle then drives away, traveling toward Burdine in the opposite lane.
Business owner Waylon Church, who declined to be interviewed on-camera, said he hopes someone will be able to identify the vehicle that caused the crash. Church said the offending vehicle appears to be dark in color, with a lighter-colored bumper. He said parts found at the scene were identified as those of a late 1990s, or early 2000s Toyota Camry. Church said his cameras captured the as yet unidentified vehicle coming out of nearby Joes Branch.
Anyone with information on the crash, or the vehicle that caused the crash, is asked to contact the Jenkins Police Department. Callers may remain anonymous.
