ST. PAUL, Va. — Police have captured a southwestern Virginia man wanted for stealing multiple cars and other items.

It all began on Tuesday, when the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office got a report from JWT Well Services that a man had broken into the shop, taken tools and stole a pickup truck. The truck was found abandoned at Hardee’s in St. Paul, and security cameras caught the thief walking away.

Using the video, police identified the suspect as Jonathan Reed Stiltner, 48, and obtained warrants for his arrest.

A short time later, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car stolen from the St. Paul area. Police found it wrecked in Dickenson County on Wednesday, and received a report at the same time that a van stolen from Mountain View Marina had been left in the road.

That night, a woman reported her car had been stolen by a man who showed up on an ATV, which also turned out to be stolen.

Police from multiple agencies found the car, prompting a chase that ended when the suspect reached a dead end. Stiltner allegedly ran away but was arrested later near Flannagan Lake.

He is now charged with burglary, grand larceny, motor vehicle larceny and numerous other charges.

Dickenson County, VA — Two men have been arrested in connection to thefts. According to the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office, residents in the Tempes Branch area returned home from church last Saturday night to find their home had been broken into. Several items were taken including a flat screen tv, laptop, cameras and many other items. Another resident in the same area also found several items missing from his home. Yet a third resident reported two men had forced their way into a building by breaking a lock. That resident was able to take a picture of the vehicle the men were in. Upon further investigation, warrants were obtained for Mickey Shane Bond of Coeburn. Bond was arrested the next day on burglary charges. Another suspect developed during the course of the investigation. An arrest warrant was issued for Darrell Vincent Mullins on burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and two counts of grand larceny. Dickenson County Sheriff Scott Stanley and Captain Jarrod Salyer arrested Mullins late Thursday on Route 72 in Dickenson County. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Dickenson County, VA — A stabbing Tuesday night in Dickenson County, Virginia has landed one man in the hospital and another behind bars. According to the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the Hazel Mountain area of the county shortly before 9:00 PM. Authorities report that Kerry Wright was charged with malicious wounding after he allegedly stabbed a man. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center for his injuries. His condition is unknown. Deputies say that Wright left the scene prior to their arrival by personal vehicle to the Russell County Medical Center for his injuries. Wright was arrested while at the hospital.

Dickenson County, VA — The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office is warning of various scams. According to Sheriff Scott Stanley, the latest scam to surface is one involving an elderly man being called by someone claiming to be his grandson who said he was in an accident, was injured and was arrested and needed bond money. Sheriff Stanley said the elderly man unfortunately fell for this scam and was frauded out of $8,500.00. An investigation has been started by the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office partnering with the U.S. Postal Inspector and Boston Police Department. Sheriff Stanley also said they’ve seen a rash of “Social Security” calls and “IRS” calls as well. Sheriff Stanley urges you to be diligent in keeping you guard up and reminding you that a legitimate business will not mind you asking questions and taking your time to see if they are legitimate.

Dickenson County, VA — The 111th Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy Law Enforcement Basic Class has graduated. One of the graduates was Dickenson County Deputy Sheriff Clifton Mullins. Dickenson County Sheriff Scott Stanley congratulated Mullins on his successful completion and graduation. Sheriff Stanley says Deputy Mullins will be assigned to patrol and will begin his field training soon.

Dickenson County, VA — The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office has welcomed a new Deputy. Deputy Brett Stallard is a 2000 graduate of Haysi High School and a 2003 graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College. Stallard completed the 80th Law Enforcement Basic Academy in 2003. In 2005 he was promoted to the position of K-9 handler in the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office. In 2008 Stallard left the department to earn a BS Degree in Criminal Justice. In 2009, he accepted a position at Breaks Interstate Park as Chief Ranger. Now back with the Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office, Stallard will serve as Litter Control and as a patrol Deputy.
