WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Police have made an arrest in a pair of shootings this week in Williamson.

James Victor Hash Jr., 20, of Oceana, W.Va., was arrested Friday for attempted murder, destruction of property, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm.

Police believe him to be the person responsible for a drive-by shooting into a car on Tuesday, as well as a shooting into an apartment building the following night. No one was hurt in either incident. He was identified as a suspect based on information from the public, as well as a review of security camera video from the vicinity of the shootings.

Hash is now being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden. The case was investigated by the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and Williamson Police, with assistance from West Virginia State Police and Williamson Fire Department.

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — There are no reports of injuries following an active shooter situation early Wednesday morning in Williamson.

Williamson Police, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police responded to reports of a man randomly firing a gun in a residential area. When officers arrived, the man reportedly also fired at them.

Andrew James Hicks, 25, was ultimately taken into custody. He now faces numerous charges, including:

• 14 counts of wanton endangerment
• 10 counts of shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling
• Four counts of attempted murder of an officer
• Brandishing a deadly weapon
• Obstructing an officer
• Battery on an officer

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Williamson Police Department made quick work of a theft investigation over the weekend.

Police reponded to a report of a motorcycle being stolen at the Mountaineer Hotel.

A short time later, 21-year-old John Howard Griffith was arrested and charged with conspiracy, grand larceny and destruction of property.

He is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a 25-thousand dollar bond.

Williamson, WV — More reports of counterfeit money are surfacing in the region. Recently, Pikeville Police recovered counterfeit money, now two separate incidents involving two suspects passing counterfeit currency is being investigation by the Williamson Police Department. Both suspects have been identified, however not publicly, and the United States Secret Service has been notified. Williamson Police advise businesses and local business owners and employees to check any currency they receive and to contact them or their local law enforcement agency if they receive any counterfeit money.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the male as Michael K. Mullins, 47, of Inez.

According to police, Mullins turned himself in at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center Thursday afternoon. Mullins is charged with second-degree burglary.

Tuesday morning, Mullins allegedly drove to Dotson’s home in a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and knocked on the door. He then went into the garage and allegedly stole tools.

MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man allegedly tried to break into a home early Tuesday morning.

According to a Facebook post that has since been deleted, a male allegedly came to Williamson Police Chief Grady Dotson’s home in a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and knocked on the door. He then went into the garage and allegedly stole tools.

The sheriff’s office has some leads and is following up on the investigation.

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The Williamson Police Department is currently investigating a robbery that took place at a barber shop, Tuesday. Around 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, police responded to a 9-1-1 call of an armed robbery at Sportsman’s Barber Shop in Downtown Williamson. Police say an individual entered the barbershop wearing a bandana over their face and a dark hoodie. Once inside police say the individual pulled out a gun and pointed it at the business owner and demanded money. The owner gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash.

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The Williamson Police Department is investigating a robbery in the city. At 9:30 Sunday night, police responded to a 9-1-1 call at Dano and Spano’s Ice Cold Carryout in Downtown Williamson. As an employee was preparing to close the store for the night, an unknown individual with a mask came into the store. According to police, the individual looked around and then walked to the back toward the clerk. When the clerk noticed the individual she started to run. At first, police say, the clerk started for the phone and that’s when the situation escalated and turned violent.

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — It’s the month of November, and with that, comes ‘No Shave November.’ Those at the Williamson Police Department are participating in the event, and they will also be donating to a worthy cause. Interim Police Chief Grady Paul Dotson says the money the police department typically uses for shaving, such as razors and shaving cream, will be donated to Charleston Area Medical Center’s Cancer Center. Dotson says everyone has been or is currently affected by the disease in some way… and says participating in ‘No Shave November’ will benefit the cancer center in two ways.
