Witness testimony concluded Wednesday in the murder trail of James Huffman IV in Whitesburg.
Huffman is accused of stabbing 24-year-old Michael Hogg to death on New Year’s Day 2014. In Wednesday’s proceedings, Huffman repeated a claim made Tuesday that when the stabbing occurred, he was being attacked by Hogg and his party, which included Huffman’s other alleged stabbing victims, Christopher Puckett and Stacy Phillips. Huffman told the jury he was being attacked by Hogg, Stacy Phillips and Christopher Puckett when he began swinging a knife he’d originally produced to scare off the three men, whom he characterized as “ruffians.”
Following the conclusion of testimony, the counsels for both sides on the case began working on jury instructions and special Letcher Circuit Judge Kent Hendrickson recessed the proceedings until Thursday, when closing arguments are expected to be made.
