PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The persistent rainy weather and dramatic changes in temperature are creating quite the problem for local highway department crews. Mud and rock slides are becoming an almost daily occurrence, and many of them are impacting state maintained roads throughout the region, creating both an inconvenience and a danger for motorists. A pair of slides in Pike and Floyd County Tuesday created minor delays while crews worked to clear debris from the road. Highway District 12 Information Officer Sara George says until conditions improve, we will more than likely see more slides and muddy conditions. Motorists are urged to drive carefully, especially in areas prone to experience slides.
