LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. — The Letcher County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged threat at Letcher County Central High School.
Around 1:30 Monday afternoon, two students came to the office to report a threat. The threats were allegedly made via social media and on a tablet. Lt. Bert Slone, who is a deputy assigned to work with the school system, and the principal immediately started an investigation. During the investigation, the juvenile who allegedly made the threats was removed from student population.
After receiving evidence of the threats, a 14-year-old male was taken into custody. He was charged with two-counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.
Tuesday, classes at Letcher Central and the alternative school were called off because of the threat. Officials tell EKB News, Monday’s incident was believed to be isolated, but because of other posts on social media, the school system decided it was best to err on the side of caution.
