Drugs found near downtown business

PAINTSVILLE, KY.- Drugs and drug paraphernalia are usually confiscated from suspects during criminal investigations. That was not the case in Johnson County Tuesday afternoon when a Paintsville business owner found a black bag behind their business containing 4 grams of a crystal like substance believed to be meth, 3 grams of suspected cocaine and syringes. Officer Keith Maynard with the Paintsville Police Department says that it is unusual to find the drugs laying in the street, but not the syringes.

“I’ve been here right at two years. When I first started, a lot of people were calling for us to come and pick syringes up in the yards of day care centers, alleyways, parking lots and places like that and we still do. We still have people calling us about the needles whenever they find them because they don’t want to touch them and rightfully so.”

If you come into contact with any sort of drug paraphernalia inside the city limits you are urged to not touch it and call the Paintsville Police Department at 606-789-2603 so that it can be disposed of in a safe manner.
