Trial In Shooting Case Concludes

Wise County, VA — The trial in a Wise County, Virginia shooting case came to a collusion with an Alford plea. 49-year-old Gregory Earnest Milam entered the plea in a Wise County courtroom. An Alford plea means Milam admitted there was enough evidence to convict him, but he still claimed his innocence. In March 2018, Norton City Police responded to a call regarding a 41-year-old woman being in the hospital with gunshot wounds to the hand and chest. The victim told police that Milam shot her. Milam reportedly brought the victim to the hospital and had what looked like blood on his clothes. Investigators found a shotgun, a shell casing, and blood on the floor of Milam’s home and in his car. He was charged with attempted second-degree murder, malicious wounding, used of a firearm in the commission of a felony and malicious shooting in an occupied building. Wise County prosecutors had asked the court to give Milam the maximum penalty of 43 years, but Milam was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 18 suspended.
