The U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday to adopt two articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump. Trump becomes only the third president in history to be impeached.
According to CNN, the House voted primarily along party lines, with 230 Democrats voting in favor of adopting the articles of impeachment, and 197 Republicans voting against the articles. One Democratic representative, Tulsi Gabbard, voted “present.”
According to Fox News, the articles adopted by the House include “abuse of power” and “obstruction of Congress.” Trump looks to be acquitted in his impeachment trial before the U.S. Senate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has previously said that any impeachment attempt would be dead upon arrival in the Senate.
Former presidents Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson are the only other U.S. presidents to face impeachment. Both were acquitted in the senate.
Trump overwhelming carries Kentucky in the 2016 election.
