Truck overturns, blocking road

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Some residents of Cowpen Road in Pike County were left unable to get to their homes for several hours last night, after an oil truck overturned.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, and crews on the scene anticipated it would take at least a couple of hours to clear the roadway.

According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Mark Branham, the driver said the road collapsed beneath him.

“He said a car was coming his direction, and it’s kind of narrow right there anyway, so he tried to get over more to the right,” Branham said. “The roadway caved on him on the shoulder, is what he said, causing him to turn over.”

The driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out, but officials said it appeared he would be OK.
