Two Pike residents killed in separate crashes

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two people are dead following a pair of single-vehicle crashes over the weekend in Pike County.

The first happened just after 8 o’clock Saturday night on U.S. 460 at Shelbiana. Police say Virgil Allen, 44, of Pikeville, was driving a Chevy Equinox, when he left the road and struck a culvert. He died at the scene.

The second occurred just before 10 Sunday morning on Route 292 at South Williamson. Police say Windel Rife, 48, of Belfry, was driving a Cadillac CTS when his car went off the road, hit a guardrail, then plunged over a steep embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both incidents remain under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
