WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The second Hatfield and McCoy House Inn Flotilla will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. in Williamson.

The float will begin at the boat ramp near the Second Avenue bridge in downtown Williamson, W.Va. and will end at the boat ramp near El Azul Grande in South Williamson, Ky.

“Anything that they feel comfortable floating in. We do recommend that you bring an ore or a paddle of some sort just in case you need to maneuver yourself around,” said co-organizer Jessica Hackney. “Life jackets are recommended, not required. Just show up for a fun day on the river.”

The event is free. A shuttle service will be offered for $5 per person to bring participants back to the starting point. Floaters can also bring two vehicles to park at each location.

“With the changing of the culture and the way the river has changed, we’re getting a lot more push from higher authorities,” added co-organizer Chris Hackney. “We’re trying to evolve this and make it a good place for everybody to come to.”

Door prizes and a raffle will be offered and the first 100 floaters will receive a goody bag.

“We actually did it twice last year. The first one was the first time, I assume, anybody has ever done a flotilla like that around here,” said Jessica Hackney. “We had about 40 people for that. Then, once it caught fire, the next month we did it again and we had, I guess, around 100.”

Everyone is encouraged to wear sunscreen and float at their own risk.
