Food City in Whitesburg was allowed to reopen Saturday morning.
The grocery store was closed Thursday by the Letcher County Health Department after an inspection yielded the discovery of the presence of “rodents” in the store. Health Department Environmental Inspector Kevin Nichols told Mountain Top News that “signs” of a rodent infestation were found during a recent inspection, and the store was ordered closed.
On Saturday, the Letcher County Health Department announced that the store was allowed to re-open for business.
As reported by The Mountain Eagle in Whitesburg, a statement from Food City parent company K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc., says the company apologized for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure and that “food safety and cleanliness is of the upmost importance.” The company also promised that discounts the store would have had through it’s $5 Friday promotion will be available through Sunday. Shoppers will also be given bonus Fuel Bucks for shopping in the store this weekend.
Nichols told Mountain Top News on Friday that Whitesburg Food City typically passes its health inspection. In it’s most recent inspection , the store scored 98 out of a possible 100 and the store’s food service scored 96.
