Williamson woman allegedly leaves children in hot car

MATEWAN, W.Va. — The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a woman allegedly left her children in a hot car for more than five hours.

It happened in Matewan Thursday afternoon. According to court documents, Heather Renea Bailey, 35, of Williamson, left her two and three-year-old children in a car with the engine turned off and the windows rolled up.

Fire officials and Mingo County deputies allegedly found the children strapped in car seats. They appeared to be overheated.

According to the criminal complaint, the children had rashes and one had a blister from sitting in soiled diapers.

Bailey was arrested and lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden. She was charged with child neglect resulting in injury and obstructing an officer.
