A Pikeville man is facing a felony assault charge in an indictment handed down this week.
According to the indictment, 27-year-old Omar Santana, of South Mayo Trail, assaulted another man in March during an argument. Pike Commonwealth’s Attorney Rick Bartley said Santana escalated the incident when he hit the alleged victim with a candlestick.
Santana is facing a charge of second-degree assault, and could face up to 10 years in prison. Bartley said police believe he may have fled from Pike County.
Bartley said Santana escalated the severity of the incident by using the candlestick as a weapon. He said using common objects as weapons can escalate a charge of misdemeanor assault to felony-level.
