WOMEN’S SOCCER: UPIKE Edges Reinhardt 3-2 In Home Thriller

The University of Pikeville women’s soccer team edged Reinhardt 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bob Amos Park.

Rebekah Christopher opened the scoring for the Bears early in the match, but the Lady Eagles quickly responded with a goal from Sarah Taylor to even the score at 1-1.

UPIKE created several chances through the remainder of the half but couldn’t find the net again before the break.

In the second half, Charlene Lofvist put the Bears back on top with a strike in the 57th minute. Just four minutes later, Taylor scored again for Reinhardt to tie things at 2-2.

The Bears wasted little time reclaiming the lead as Gabrielle Ernst found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner.

UPIKE outshot Reinhardt 19-16 in the contest, controlling much of the tempo down the stretch to seal the win.

The victory moves UPIKE to 8-3-3 on the season and 6-3-2 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. The Bears return to action Wednesday at 3 p.m., hosting Montreat College at Bob Amos Park.
