Frankfort, KY — Unemployment rates fell in 37 Kentucky counties between January 2018 and January 2019, rose in 72 and stayed the same in 11 counties, that according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 3.1 percent. Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 14.2 percent which is up from 11.3 percent recorded in December 2018. Elsewhere in the region, Floyd county reported 6.8 percent in January up from 5.6 percent in December, Johnson County reported 7.4 percent in January up from 5.6 percent in December, Martin County reported 6.8 percent in January up from 5.6 percent in December and Pike County reported 6.0 percent in January up from 5.4 percent in December. Statewide, the comparable, unadjusted unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in January while Nationally it is at 4.4 percent.
