Pike man gets more than 14 years in federal drug case

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man with a history of drug trafficking has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison, after pleading guilty to federal drug charges.

Christopher Springfield, 43, of Pikeville, pleaded guilty back in November to a single count of possession of meth, fentanyl and cocaine with the intent to distribute. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to drop two counts of distributing fentanyl and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.

In 2011, he was convicted of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and was sentenced to 92 months in that case.

Last May, police raided Springfield’s home, where they seized more than 400 grams of meth, more than 200 grams of fentanyl, and more than 100 grams of cocaine base.

He appeared in U.S. District Court in Pikeville on Wednesday, where a judge sentenced him to 172 months in prison.
