
Two mountain legislators will have to compete against each other to see which one will have a chance to keep his or her job.
The unusual election is the result of redistricting. The newly formed 97th District combines Johnson County from the old 97th with Martin County and part of Pike from the old 93rd.
As a result, incumbent representatives Bobby McCool, of Van Lear, and Norma Kirk McCormick, of Inez, will run against each other in the Republican primary.
The winner of that race will face Democrat BarbiAnn Maynard, of Martin County, in November.
