Local state troopers receive awards

FRANKFORT, Ky. — During an award ceremony last week, area state troopers were honored for their professionalism and dedication.

Trooper Jerry Baker Jr. from Post 13 in Hazard was not only named Post 13 Trooper of the Year, but also Trooper of the Year for the entire state.

Also at Post 13, Det. Joshua Huff was named Detective of the Year, while Trooper Michael Caudill received a Meritorious Service Award for his efforts to raise money to provide needy families with Thanksgiving dinners.

Post 13 Commander Jennifer Sandlin said she is proud of the outstanding work ethic of these troopers and their commitment to serving their communities.

Meanwhile, at Post 9 in Pikeville, Trooper Corey Charles was named Post 9 Trooper of the Year, while Det. Michael Coleman was named Post 9 Detective of the Year. Charles was also awarded a Lifesaving Medal.

Post 9 Commander Randal Surber said he is proud of Charles and Coleman, and he added that all troopers at Post 9 strive to serve their communities daily.
