PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville couple was arrested, after police say they allowed their pit bull to attack another dog and its owner.

William Leeper, 35, and Jonda Collins, 47, both of Poplar Street in Pikeville, were reportedly walking with the dog along Kentucky Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the dog attacked a small dog. When the other dog’s owner tried to rescue her dog, the pit bull then attacked her, biting her hand.

Court records gave conflicting accounts about whether or not the smaller dog survived the attack.

Leeper allegedly ran away from the scene, later telling police he was trying to get to home incarceration, due to his current indictment on a robbery charge.

Leeper and Collins were both arrested and charged with harboring a vicious animal, permitting a vicious dog to run at large, assault, wanton endangerment and disorderly conduct. Leeper was also charged with fleeing police.

Animal control was called to take custody of the pit bull.
