PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — A woman being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville found herself in even more trouble, after she allegedly attacked a guard.

The incident happened on Thursday and was captured on the jail’s security camera. Shortly after noon, a guard went to a cell carrying a blanket. When she opened the door, Angel Gipson, 43, of Salyersville, allegedly tried to force her way out of the cell.

When the guard held Gipson back and reached for pepper spray, Gipson reportedly began hitting the guard in the face and head, then began choking her. The guard was finally able to use her pepper spray on Gipson, but the struggle continued until another guard came to help.

Gipson is now charged with assaulting a corrections officer and strangulation, both of which are felonies. She remains in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
