JENKINS, Ky. — A Letcher County woman is in jail, after police say she crashed into a kid riding a dirt bike and dragged him under her truck, then tried to flee the scene.

It happened around 3 p.m. Saturday at Fish Pond Drive. According to Kentucky State Police, Lisa Everly, 44, of Jenkins, who is also listed as Lisa Fields in the Letcher County Jail, was driving a Chevy Silverado when she collided with a dirt bike. Following the crash, the dirt bike and its juvenile operator were wedged under the truck, and Fields allegedly accelerated and dragged them for approximately 100 feet before stopping.

After the vehicle stopped, nearby witnesses were able to lift the truck enough to pry the youth and dirt bike from underneath, after which Fields got into the passenger seat of the truck, while Audi Fields, 44, of Whitesburg, reportedly got in the driver’s seat and attempted to drive away, until a park overseer blocked the road.

The dirt bike operator was seriously injured in the crash and was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center, in Kingsport, Tenn., for treatment.

Everly was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident. The assault charge is a felony, punishable by 10-to-20 years in prison, if Fields is convicted.
