HUEYSVILLE, Ky. — A Floyd County man is facing several felony charges for leading police on a high-speed chase after allegedly stealing cable.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jefferson Road at Hueysville Monday night, when a resident said internet service went out and he looked out a window to see Nathan Lee Sturgill, 41, of Hueysville, loading fiber-optic cable into his truck.
The resident followed Sturgill to keep advising police of his location, and soon Sheriff John Hunt caught up with him on Turkey Creek Road. Sheriff Hunt attempted to pull him over, but Sturgill sped away instead, prompting a chase.
Sturgill led police to Route 80 and headed toward Martin at speeds over 110 miles an hour. The police report says Sturgill ran a red light at Stephens Branch, then ran another one at Route 122, nearly hitting three cars in the process. After that, Sturgill shut off the lights to his car, but he soon gave up the chase on Martin Hill.
Sturgill was arrested for theft, fleeing police, wanton endangerment, possession of burglar’s tools, DUI and several other charges. He is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
