Two school districts in Eastern Kentucky report investigating worrisome statements made by students, but have concluded there is no danger to anyone following an investigation.
Paintsville Independent Schools Supt. Thomas Salyer sent a letter to parents reporting that Paintsville High School administrators had learned Monday that one of their students had sent a text to another student, threatening to bring a gun to school and cause harm.
The school district reported the incident to Paintsville Police, which investigated and concluded that there was no credible threat to students or staff. However, police placed additional officers in and around the school to provide additional security.
Then around 11:30 Monday night, a parent reported to Pikeville Independent Schools that their child told them about a student making unspecified threats at the end of the school day on Monday.
Supt. David Trimble reported in a letter to parents that the school district immediately contacted Pikeville Police, which had officers in the student’s home within 30 minutes. Again, police investigating the matter concluded there was no credible threat to students or staff in the school district, and the police department placed additional officers around the schools to ensure safety.
