ASHLAND, Ky. — A Pike County man has been sentenced 17.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to producing child pornography.

Lonnie James Maynard, 54, of Raccoon, pleaded guilty to producing child porn back in August. In his plea agreement, he admitted directing a boy to send him a two-second nude video through Snapchat.
According to the sentencing guidelines used in the case, Maynard faced a sentence of between 168 and 210 months in prison. On Monday, U.S. District Judge David Bunning sentenced him to the maximum of that range, 210 months.
However, prosecutors had sought an even stiffer sentence and had argued for a five-level enhancement that would have placed the sentencing guidelines to between 292 and 365 months in prison. They argued that the enhancement was justified by Maynard’s “pattern of activity.” Prosecutors pointed out that in addition to the video Maynard admitted to receiving in his plea agreement, police also recovered a photo of Maynard exposing himself in close proximity of the child.
Maynard’s attorney objected to that enhancement and Judge Bunning agreed to disallow it.
Parole has been abolished in the federal prison system, but Maynard can receive credit for good behavior that could shorten his sentence by a little more than two years. Following his release, he will remain under supervision for 10 years.
