Prestonsburg, Ky.–Many look to come home for the holidays and spend time with their families, but some don’t have families or homes to go to.
There are thousands of children across the state and over 400 in our area that are in that situation and are in need of foster care.
Mountain Comprehensive Care Center’s Therapeutic Foster Care and Adoption facility in Prestonsburg is a private child care program that looks to provide a therapeutic family setting not only for the foster children, but for foster parents as well.
Latahsa Hutchinson (Service Coordinator, MCCC): “Right now where we are close to the holidays we are getting real scarce trying to provide homes for these children that way we can offer a family holiday for them. We just really strive to try to make sure we can place as many children as we can during the holiday times because its more heartbreaking for us to see them coming in and having to sit in facilities and things like that.”
Chelsea Goble (Service Coordinator, MCCC): “They have a therapist that is in our agency and also they have to see myself. They have like a helping hand to realize that you’re not alone and that these children have that bond and relationship with more than just the parents and so we get to help them grow old together.”
