Most West Virginia schools — including Mingo and Logan counties — have called off classes for at least today, one day ahead of a planned walkout by the state’s teachers. The work stoppage is planned for today and over a prolonged impasse with state leaders over pay, benefits and other issues. Legislators to Wednesday approved a two-year pay raise of 2 percent the first year and 1 percent the second. Meanwhile, the West Virginia Board of Education held emergency meetings to discuss the looming walkout. However, at this time, it appears the work stoppage will move forward.
