PHELPS, Ky: Thursday’s special Olympics will provide great memories for all the participants. However, for one competitor from Phelps High School, the games will pale in comparison to the memories she made last Friday night. Madison Lawson, who was born with Spina bifida, is paralyzed from the waist down. But, she still got to live every high school girl’s dream, when she was crowned Queen of the Phelps High School prom, which came as a surprise to her entire family.

“It was just wonderful, people snapping pictures. She was just gorgeous,” explained Madison’s grandmother, Garlene Layne Abshire. “Then we get the call from her teacher while we were waiting on her that she made prom queen, and we were screaming an hollering. It was just truly amazing, and its just a blessing that these kids voted for our Madison. To know that the love they’ve had for her all these years, it’s awesome…it’s wonderful.”
“I enjoyed it, it was good to be prom queen,” explained Madison. “It was fun. Friday was the best day of my life!”
Madison Lawson is a senior at Phelps High School, and says she would like to go on to college to become a nurse.
