AEP recognized for LGBTQ equality

Kentucky Power’s parent company was recognized recently by a human rights group for LGBTQ equality measures.

American Electric Power received recognition recently from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for being one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality. A statement from the company says AEP earned a perfect score on the foundation’s 2020 Corporate Equality Index, which measures how large businesses in the U.S. treat lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees, consumers and investors.

Among the factors in which AEP scored perfectly were the prohibition of discrimination against the LGBTQ community, equivalency in same- and different-sex spousal medical benefits and health coverage and outreach efforts or engagement to the LGBTQ community.
