WASHINGTON, D.C. — More bad new for former President Donald Trump, as it appears he will soon face a third criminal indictment, this time for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the Capitol.
Trump has received a target letter from special counsel Jack Smith, who has been investigating Trump’s efforts to overturn his election loss to President Joe Biden.
The news came from the former president himself, in a statement released on his Truth Social platform.
If Trump is indicted in the federal probe, as now appears likely, it may not be the end of his legal troubles. He also faces an investigation by Atlanta Circuit District Attorney Fani Willis into possible election interference in Georgia.
On Monday, the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously rejected Trump’s attempt to disqualify Willis from investigating him.
