CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A company that handles the payroll software for West Virginia state government employees is the latest victim of a ransomware attack, but officials are reassuring the state’s 60,000 workers that they will receive their paychecks on time this Friday.
The attack happened two weeks ago, crippling the state’s payroll time and leave accounting system.
Since then, State Auditor J.B. McCuskey’s office has been working with administrators to manually record payroll information.
No personal information was compromised in the attack, and payroll for the Supreme Court of Appeals, Division of Highways and State Police was not affected.
