BIG STONE GAP, Va. – Police in another Appalachian community are searching for an armed robber, this time in Big Stone Gap, Va.

According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, a masked man entered the lobby of Quality Inn around 10:30 Monday night, armed with a rifle and demanding money. He then fled in a dark-colored SUV.

The robber is described as standing between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing between 230 and 250 lbs.

The incident is at least the second armed robbery to occur in the area this week, after the Dollar General store in Wittensville was robbed around 8 p.m. Monday night. However, that suspect was described as around 6 feet tall, with a slender build.
