Blessing Box

Prestonsburg– Members of First Presbyterian Church in Prestonsburg are celebrating a new way for members of their community to give and receive.

The church held a dedication for its new blessing box Tuesday (May 8th). The box is stocked with essentials by church members and anyone in the community who wishes to give to the less fortunate. In turn, anyone in need can come to the blessing box to obtain food and other items. Reverend Stephen Sanders says it is a small way to help, but has the potential to bring big changes.

“A blessing box is something that that community can use if you need something to eat, if you have small children and you’re having to choose between items you can come by and get a caned non-perishable good and take it home and be blessed. But we also recognize that we need to give, we recognize that it is more blessed to give than to receive. This started with about two or three church members and that’s where God likes to work, put an idea in someones mind and they shared it with us and we just all latched onto it immediately we all just recognized it was a truly good idea and that how God works. He just puts an idea in peoples minds then resources it as well, small congregations out there, my message to you is you can do big things if you just look around. Don’t let your small numbers from trying to do some big things to help out in our community”

The blessing box is located in the church parking lot, on North Lake Drive in Prestonsburg
