Citizen donates to senior center

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — During Thursday’s Pike County Fiscal Court meeting, the Shelby Valley Senior Citizen’s Center was awarded with a generous monetary donation.

Everett Johnson and his family donated $5,000 to the center. Johnson has had family members who attended events at the center for numerous years.

The center is planning to purchase new equipment, carpet and vehicles with the money.

“If anyone would like to come out and join, have good food and fellowship, and just to get out of the house, it helps a lot of people,” said Director Leah Traylor. “You can do exercises and all kinds of stuff. It’s a really good program for people.”

The Shelby Valley Senior Citizens Center feeds around 50 seniors a day. At least 30 seniors attend the events offered at the center.
