PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The city of Pikeville says it is happy to discuss the possibility of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team holding its annual Blue-White scrimmage game at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.
The possibility of the game being moved to Pikeville arose during a telethon in support of flood victims. Coach John Calipari said in a tweet that his players want to have the game there and donate the proceeds to the recovery effort.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, the city of Pikeville says it welcomes the news.
“The City of Pikeville is excited to learn that the University of Kentucky has announced that their annual Blue-White Game will be played in Eastern Kentucky this year, with proceeds going to help flood victims. While our region has been gravely affected by devastating floods, we appreciate the support from UK and we welcome a conversation to plan a date and time for the game, especially if they’re interested in using our Appalachian Wireless Arena.
“Our region bleeds blue and would be thrilled to welcome the Cats to our area. In the meantime, we appreciate prayers for our friends and neighbors who have lost everything in the floods.”
