Clinic raid tied to alleged drug trafficking

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — We are learning more about last month’s raid of a Johnson County doctor’s office.

Johnson County deputies and agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration executed a search warrant at Appalachian Family Medicine in Paintsville on Jan. 19. At that time, officials confirmed the raid but said they could provide no additional information due to the nature of the investigation.

But records unsealed in federal court this week do provide some additional details. An application for forfeiture of the property notes that it allegedly either represents the proceeds of drug trafficking or was used for drug trafficking.

However, additional court records providing greater detail of those allegations remain under seal.

The forfeiture is a civil court matter and, so far, no criminal charges in connection with clinic have been announced.
