COLLEGE BASEBALL: Bears drop season-opening series

The University of Pikeville Bears opened the 2021 college baseball season against Indiana University-Southeast in a three-game series played in Louisville over the weekend.

The Bears dropped all three games, scoring just five total runs. UPIKE fell 7-1, 4-1 and 12-3.

In the series finale on Saturday, Tyler Freas doubled and scored while Jairemy Pulido had two hits, including a double. Demarco Miller doubled.

Nolan Fernandes suffered the loss.

In the middle game, Noah Helton singled and scored. Pulido and Freas had one hit each.

Gabriel Ferrell was saddled with the loss.

In the series opener on Friday, Cam Marushi belted a solo home run while Jared Kirkman doubled and scored. Eduardo Bello added two hits, including a double. Noah Helton had two hits.

Collin Fenili took the loss.
