Company, owner plead guilty to selling unapproved drugs

ABINGDON, Va. — A North Carolina man and his company have pleaded guilty to charges that they sold illegal sports supplements in southwestern Virginia.

In federal court in Abingdon Tuesday morning, Brian Michael Parks and MedFitRX each pleaded guilty to a single count of introducing unapproved drugs into interstate commerce.

They admitted to selling performance-enhancing drugs known as SARMs, which the FDA has deemed to carry risks of heart attack, stroke and liver toxicity.

In addition to any prison sentence he might receive, Parks has agreed to forfeit $350,000 to the government. If that amount is not paid in full by Feb. 15, it will balloon to nearly $1.2 million.
