PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville woman who was suspected of shoplifting made matters worse for herself by allegedly leading police on a chase.
Pikeville Police were called to Walmart around 11 p.m. Sunday over a report that Savanna Compton, 29, was suspected of shoplifting and had fled from the store.
When police arrived, they spotted her leaving the area at the Helen Brown Bridge. They followed and tried to stop her, but the police report notes she fled instead, recklessly turning onto U.S. 119.
That prompted a chase down U.S. 119 to Town Mountain Road, then onto Ratliff’s Creek, before she turned onto Horseshoe Drive, where she came to a dead end. Police say she then jumped out of the car and tried to run away, but she was soon captured.
After arresting her, police reportedly found the merchandise that had been reported stolen, along with meth, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl.
Compton has now been charged with shoplifting, fleeing police, multiple counts of drug possession and other charges.
