Crash causes Paintsville blackout

CRASH_1JOHNSON COUNTY, KY.– A single vehicle accident near Mountain Manor Nursing Home caused nearly half the residents in Paintsville to lose power for a short time this evening.

According to Public Information Officer Kevin Maynard with the Paintsville Police Department, a vehicle traveling on Route 40/Euclid Avenue, left the roadway, ran onto the sidewalk, traveled over an embankment, into a resident’s back yard and struck an power pole head-on. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Paul B. Hall Medical Center to be treated for her injuries.

The east bound lane of traffic is moving slowly at this time while clean-up efforts are underway.

AEP officials say around 70 customers are still without power and expect to have it restored in about 5-hours.

The Paintsville Police Department and Paintsville Fire and EMS all responded to the scene.
