Dad Abandons Son At Restaurant

Pikeville, KY — Pikeville Police responded to Texas Roadhouse Saturday evening after receiving a complaint of an abandoned 9-year-old boy being left alone for nearly an hour. The juvenile told officers that his dad, 38-year-old David Burge of Kimper, had left him at the restaurant. While officers were searching the parking lot for Burge, they saw Burge drive into the parking lot. When officers approached Burge they could smell a strong odor of alcohol. According to the arrest citation, Burge admitted to leaving his 9-year-old son in the restaurant while he and his 15-year-old son went to get cigarettes. Police report that Burge became unruly and attempted to charge one of the male employees. Police placed Burge under arrest and gave him a breath test which Burge blew a .116. Officers also found an open bottle of Gin in the vehicle. As Burge was being transported to Pikeville Medical Center for blood test, Burge threatened the Officer and the Officer’s family and attempted to breakout a window in the cruiser. Burge was then taken to the Pike County Detention Center and lodged. Burge is charged with driving under the influence, wanton endangerment, terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct, menacing, open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle and various traffic violations.
