PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The attorney for the man accused of killing Amber Spradlin is objecting to a delay in the upcoming trial.

Spradlin’s body was found June 18, 2023, at the Arkansas Creek home of Prestonsburg dentist Michael McKinney. McKinney’s son, M.K. McKinney, is charged with her murder. Both McKinneys and family friend Josh Mullins also face charges for allegedly trying to cover up the crime.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner asked last month to postpone the Dec. 1 trial, saying the state crime lab needs more time to finish DNA testing.

But defense attorney Steven Romines has filed an objection, saying prosecutors have called their case strong enough to justify a $5 million bond and that it’s now time to let a jury decide.

A hearing is set for Thursday. Mountain Top News will be in court and livestreaming the proceedings.
